Framing Joint Action 5

چکیده

8 9 Abstract Many philosophers have offered accounts of shared actions aimed at 10 capturing what makes joint actions intentionally joint. I first discuss two leading 11 accounts of shared intentions, proposed by Michael Bratman and Margaret Gilbert. I 12 argue that Gilbert’s account imposes more normativity on shared intentions than is 13 strictly needed and that Bratman’s account requires too much cognitive sophistication 14 on the part of agents. I then turn to the team-agency theory developed by economists that 15 I see as offering an alternative route to shared intention. I concentrate on Michael 16 Bacharach’s version of team-agency theory, according to which shared agency is 17 a matter of team-reasoning, team-reasoning depends on group identification and 18 group identification is the result of processes of self-framing. I argue that it can 19 yield an account of shared intention that is less normatively loaded and less 20 cognitively demanding.

The present study examines how Trump’s unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on May 8, 2018 was framed in political cartoons published in the American and French media. The paper offers a thematic analysis of cartoons published from May 8 to June 8, 2018, the peak period for publication of cartoons on the Iran nuclear deal, and accessed via Google images. The...

Re-Framing the Knowledge to Action Challenge Through NIHR Knowledge Mobilisation Research Fellows; Comment on “CIHR Health System Impact Fellows: Reflections on ‘Driving Change’ Within the Health System”

The ambition of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research Health System Impact (HSI) Fellowship initiative to modernise the health system is impressive. Embedded researchers who work between academia and nonacademic settings offer an opportunity to reframe the problem of evidence uptake as a product of a gap between those who produce knowledge and those who use it. As such, there has been an ...

Intentional joint agency: shared intention lite

Philosophers have proposed accounts of shared intentions that aim at capturing what makes a joint action intentionally joint. On these accounts, having a shared intention typically presupposes cognitively and conceptually demanding theory of mind skills. Yet, young children engage in what appears to be intentional, cooperative joint action long before they master these skills. In this paper, I ...

A Deep Recurrent Framework for Cleaning Motion Capture Data

We present a deep, bidirectional, recurrent framework for cleaning noisy and incomplete motion capture data. It exploits temporal coherence and joint correlations to infer adaptive filters for each joint in each frame. A single model can be trained to denoise a heterogeneous mix of action types, under substantial amounts of noise. A signal that has both noise and gaps is preprocessed with a sec...
